Lake Tekapo
Yesterday we arrived in on the South island of New Zealand at Christchurch airport. It was the middle of the night when we landed, so we stayed in an airport hotel for the night. We were going to sleep in the car, but our Mum and Dad decided we needed a good sleep.
The next morning, after a good breakfast, we set off to Akaroa; a seaside village.
When we arrived, Megan and I went onto the rocky beach, and caught about 50 crabs. We made an enclosure out of rocks. All the bigs crabs nipped, and it was very painful, but one we named 'Pip', didn't nip.
Mum wanted to take a picture of a wharf she had seen on a canvas back home, but there was a jet boat moored there, so we had to wait until it went out on a trip.
I didn't like standing on the wharf, as it reminded me of a scene from 'Jaws' (a shark film), where a man nearly gets eaten by the shark when the shark pulled the end of the wharf off!!
Next we drove to Lake Tekapo, where the views are amazing from our chalet.
The water is an outstanding turquoise colour, with snow capped mountains behind it.
We went for a walk down to 'The Church of the Good Shepherd' which stands on the shore of the lake.
On the way back, Megan spotted a tiny rabbit in the bushes.
We stayed up late to see the stars (it doesn't get dark until 10 o'clock). As there are no lights round here at night time, and the air is so clear, you can see every single star in the sky. After we went we bed, my Mum and Dad continued looking at the stars, and they saw two shooting stars which they said were amazing.
Lake Tekapo is stunning! My mum can't stop taking pictures; the colours on the lake and mountains keep changing, and she says she wants to make sure she gets pictures of them all.
