Bang, bang, bang!!! (Emma)
On Sunday, we flew into Sydney. Unusually, in the seat pockets on the plane, there was an ipad for every passenger to use during the flight! After we landed, we got our bags and queued for a taxi. We dropped off our things, then went for a walk to Darling harbour. Once we were there, we stopped for a drink on the harbour wall, and saw some fish. One of the fish was stunning; it had a wiggly side fin, a normal fin and was multi coloured. We carried on walking round and saw a smack of jellyfish.
I like Darling Harbour; it is pretty.
The next day we went to the botanical gardens to have a walk round and see where we would like to sit to look at the fireworks. You got an amazing view of the bridge and opera house from the edge of the gardens, but these areas were going to be blocked off and used for ticketed events.
There were some other amazing spots, but we realised that you would have to be one of the first in to get those. My Dad said we should make a 'reserved for the Howfords' sign and put it on a bench that had the best view! We spoke to a few people sorting out barriers etc, and decided that we would try to get there for seven the next day ; some people were camping out already!!! We had a quick look in the art gallery after that (to cool down a bit). The gallery has an exhibition of American art on at the moment, and to advertise it, the word America is spelled out in huge letters in front; I could make up my name with the letters:
We saw a possum up in the trees near the art gallery. It had a big bushy tail and a pointy nose.
After that, we went to the supermarket to get supplies for New Year's Eve, then headed back for an early night.
The next morning, we got up really early to queue at to the botanical gardens. We watched a film, and played games to pass the time.
Finally the fireworks began; they were loud, ginormous and beautiful. There was a kids display at 9, which was good, but when the main ones went off at midnight, they were magnificent. It looked like glitter in the sky. My favourite ones were either the multi coloured ones, or the ones that shot stars into the sky.
I will never forget the fireworks in Sydney.
