Phillip Island part 2; Emma

In the evening on Phillip Island, we went to the town of Cowes for tea. We picked up a couple of pizzas, and took them down to the beach.
I found a necklace and a ring on the beach (my Mum and Dad say I am like a magpie; always finding shiny things). We kept an eye out to see if anyone was looking for them, but we couldn't see anyone. After that we went to a place called Nobbies, which is right on the tip of Phillip Island. We saw a little penguin sheltering under the boardwalk, and we also saw a wild wallaby eating some leaves.
At half seven, it was time to head to the penguin parade. This takes place at a spot where every evening, once the sun goes down, hundreds of little penguins come in from the ocean to go into their sand burrows for the night. One of the rangers told us there was a spot to sit right down on the sand. Ten minutes after we sat down, the first penguins started to arrive. Unfortunately you weren't allowed to take photographs with a flash, in case it damages the penguins eyes. (We managed to sneak a couple on iPods, and will try to put them on later.) The penguins waddled up the beach, but often, as soon as they stood up, a wave would come and wash them back in! They were sooooo cute- especially the baby ones when they shook the water off their tiny bodies. When it was time to leave, we walked up the long boardwalk back to the main building, with penguins waddling on the sand beside us, on the way to their burrows. The lady told us that some had their burrows right next to the water, whilst others had to walk quite a long way to get to theirs. It was epic!! Megan and my Mum had to wait to get into the main building, as a little penguin was walking across the path in front, and the rangers wouldn't let anyone in until the penguin had crossed. The penguins were the cutest things I have ever seen; it was the best night ever!!
